In his other life, he is Quillish Wammy, inventor and philanthropist. He is also the founder of Wammy's House, which is a orphanage located in England.Many of the super-detectives (like L and Mello) were brought up there. It's a place for gifted children.
He acts like a butler when he is with L, but in truth, they have more of a father/son relationship.
Surprisingly, he is trained in espionage and marksmanship.
